Certain U.S. states, such as California and Colorado, have data protection laws that give consumers the right to tell companies to not sell, share, or use their personal information for targeted advertising. The terms “sell,” “sale,” and “targeted advertising” tend to be broadly defined within these laws and can include the use of cookies and online identifiers to support targeted advertising, including when we use your information to present a Viasat ad on a website that you visit after visiting ours. Viasat does not “sell” or “share” your personal information outside this context. We use these state laws as the benchmark for the “sale” and “sharing”-related privacy choices we extend to all our customers.
Two Ways to Set Your “Do Not Sell or Share” Preference
1. Visit the Choice Tool on the Viasat Website
Click on the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link that can be accessed at the bottom of most of our web pages or in our apps. A pop-up window will appear where you can change your “Do Not Sell or Share” setting. If the pop-up window doesn’t appear, check your browser's pop-up settings.
Your “Do Not Sell or Share” preference may switch from not selling (grey) to selling (blue) on our website, or in our apps on your device if:
- Your browser doesn’t accept cookies
- You delete or clear your browser cookies
- You delete data on your app
- You clear your local storage on your phone
2. Global Privacy Control
Viasat participates in a mechanism called Global Privacy Control (“GPC”) that lets you set an automatic “Do Not Sell or Share” preference at the browser level. The GPC allows you to make a single opt-out request that applies to all websites which recognize GPC rather than manually electing this option on each website you visit.
To use the GPC, you’ll first need a GPC-enabled browser or browser extension since not all browsers and extensions offer a GPC setting. To download a GPC-enabled browser, visit the Global Privacy Control website.
Next, you’ll activate or turn on the GPC setting in the browser. When you visit a website, your browser will automatically send the site a “Do Not Sell or Share” signal and participating websites, like ours, will honor your preference.
To check if our website received your GPC signal, click on the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information." If we’re receiving your GPC signal, we’ll automatically opt you out of the sale of your personal information and tell you that a GPC signal was used.
While we detect your active GPC signal, we won’t allow you to opt back into the sale or sharing of your personal information.
